The European growth model has been an engine for economic convergence during the past few decades and has delivered prosperity to hundreds of millions of people on the continent. However faced with adverse debt dynamics and unfavorable demographic trends, many Europeans are calling for a ‘new growth model’. The course elaborates on the attributes of Europe’s growth model that need to be nourished, while identifying the required changes for Europe to experience golden growth. The strengths and weaknesses of the European growth model are identified with reference to the six underlying components of the model. These components are examined in detail throughout the course – trade, finance, entrepreneurship, innovation, labor and government. The course is organized into four modules, each with its own presentation video and script, readings and assignments.

Target Audience:
Policy makers and practitioners.
